The structure of the course includes intensive residential periods providing a nurturing and immersive format for learning. The Yoga Garden Teacher Training Program is an innovative, challenging, enjoyable and highly rewarding journey in the practice and principles of yoga as a constantly evolving, living tradition continually influenced and backed by new understanding and developments in the field of mind-body-medicine.
The course content is taught in a practical, skills-based format, whilst allowing for and supporting the inevitable and personal journey of self enquiry and discovery. Each training day begins with an early morning pranayama and meditation practice followed by asana practice and then breakfast. The rest of the day is made up of a variation of asana/posture clinic, teaching skills and practice, formal study/lecture time, discussion time and time spent in silence and meditation.
During the training you will experience different Hatha yoga styles; Jivamukti, Astanga Vinyasa, Vinayasa Flow, Iyengar and also Yin and Restorative yoga. Whether we practice vinyasa flow or BKS Iyengar methodology we will explore the 'inner/ outer' techniques of the yoga tradition, to reveal the spiritual path underlying the practice. Within these styles you will learn the principles of alignment, breath, bandhas, dristi, mindful awareness and techniques that tie the poses together into a seamless 'moving meditation’, building momentum to stillness.
This training offers an authentic opportunity to delve deep into self-enquiry through the practice of yoga, moving beyond just the physical experience to make the practice relevant and a way of life.
This is a transformative journey which will explore and shine the light on all parts of you, with no doubt. It WILL be filled with; fun, laughter, tears, smiles, sadness, vitality, frustration, energy, tiredness, challenge, happiness, joy and everything in between.
It will require; determination, growth mindset, calm, silence, reflection, dedication, self awareness, effort, kindness, compassion, understanding, gentleness, strength, desire, motivation, innovation, courage, respect and creativity, all in different measures at different times.
Beyond the training our ever growing community and network of supportive teachers offer the opportunity of on-going study with continuing professional development (CPD), workshops and further vocational training.
You will be provided with a well balanced set sequence to learn throughout the training to provided a basic structure on which to build your understanding of how to sequence a creative class. As you move through the training, and your knowledge and confidence grows you will be asked to develop and adapt the sequence to incorporate different levels, timing, themes and peak postures. This training will provide you with the tools and the confidence to teach a safe and well rounded class for beginners and be able to adapt it for the more experienced student/s.
You will be encouraged to find your own voice to reflect your unique personality. As well as the 200+ hours of taught contact hours, you will be given practical and theoretical home-study to further enhance your learning and skills.
All asana teaching is grounded in an informed understanding of functional, individual anatomy. This understanding will provide you with the tools to offer modifications that suit your clients needs, something we consider to be very important. You will have ample teaching skills practice in session and will need to gather people to practice teaching in-between modules.
