About the workshop
Join Amrita every Tuesday afternoon in April at the yurt for this 5 week course. Designed for complete beginners, the course is an exploration of the basic fundamentals of yoga asana (postures) and is based on the Jivamukti Yoga Basics curriculum. No prior knowledge of yoga is required! Each week we focus on different groups of yoga postures and break down the fundamentals of each posture, trying them out in different variations while learning how to effectively and intelligently use yoga props such as blocks, belts, blankets and walls! You will also learn pranayama (breath control) techniques, try out chanting mantras and do some partner work. You will also receive hands on assists if you wish from your instructor Amrita Jules (if you consent to this of course). Each class begins with a warm up sequence and there is a relaxation practice at the end of each class. Week 1 - Standing Postures basics Week 2 - Forward Bending basics Week 3 - Back bending basics Week 4 - Turning it Upside Down and Putting it All Together - Inversions basics Week 5 - Try out a Vinyasa Yoga Class sequence to music Amrita is an 800 hour certified Jivamukti Yoga teacher and has been teaching Jivamukti Yoga for over 15 years. The basics course is part of the Jivamukti method’s teaching curriculum and is excellent for preparing students for the more fast paced dynamic vinyasa flow style classes. The great thing about the course is that anyone can attend, not only beginners, meaning it is also a great course for returners to refresh their practice as well as for teachers who want to learn more about how to teach beginners. You are welcome to attend the 5 classes as a course (recommended) or, space permitting, attend each class as a drop in using a single class pass. Book here for the course.
