About the workshop

We invite you to join us on a day retreat this September, settling into a morning of Hatha yoga practice followed by a contemplation of nature to inspire you to create your own art piece in the afternoon. This is a day accessible to people of all abilities – the emphasis is on inspiration and creation. We will start our day with a strong but accessible Hatha yoga practice, exploring different postures but with plenty of adaptations so that everyone will be capable of moving through the practice and on to meditation. The aim is to ground ourselves in the natural environment, preparing for the transition from the end of summer into autumn and the approaching Autumn Equinox. We will then take a short walk and forage, using the wilderness of Knepp Safari for inspiration to create our paintings. After a delicious healthy lunch together we’ll have some time to simply relax and talk about our ideas. Julia will then guide you through a technique to help you bring your ideas to life, and we will spend the afternoon painting together. After a break for some tea we’ll finish our day with a peaceful meditation, and take our paintings home. Julia White is a self taught artist and printmaker. After moving from Twickenham to Sussex in 2006 she trained in print making with the Sussex Art, Sculpture and Printmaking Studios. Julia’s focus was predominately in etching. She started foraging for plants to study in the Sussex Downs, which became an obsession and brought her closer to nature. She has a camera with her at all times and as a result has started to combine her work by using impressions of digital imagery along with traditional techniques. There is a hint of the Orient in some of her work, which she puts down to a deep memory from spending her early years in Singapore and being surrounded by oriental fabrics, rugs and brass etched tables in her family home. Julia White has been developing her techniques of fine art and printing by foraging across the South Downs for inspiration. She captures the fragile and delicate shapes and the sense of space and form in a lightness and style influenced by an upbringing in the Far East. As Julia says: “I encourage people to stand still and simply observe nature” Cost of the retreat day is £138 to include lunch, refreshments and all art materials. Please reserve your place by clicking on the 'Book with Rebecca' button and she will be in touch to collect payment from you directly.
