In today’s fast paced world, it is more vital than ever to slow down, take a breath and reconnect with yourself and nature. At the Yoga Garden that is at the heart of everything we do. Our handcrafted yurt set within a wild flower meadow, the chorus of birdsong and our qualified, caring teachers and therapists provide a truly nurturing environment for your body, mind and soul.
We provide classes, workshops and treatments for all ages, experiences and walks of life, from complete beginners to our own certified Yoga and Massage training courses. Our Overseas Yoga Garden retreats carry the same ethos, giving you a time and place to unwind and emerge restored to your highest natural glory - just as nature intended.
OUR JOURNEY
Over the years the yurt has certainly lived up to it’s nomadic origins and moved from a garden in Storrington to the foothills of the South Downs, before finding, what feels like it’s rightful home amidst the trees, wildflowers and stunning wildlife of the Knepp Estate.

YOGA GARDEN OPENS
Yoga Garden Founder, Nina Fowkes had a passion for practicing yoga in nature. It was this enthusiasm that led her to open this inspiring centre in a yurt in her back garden. “I never intended to start a business… I just wanted to create a healing space for massage and a more sheltered place for my own yoga practice.”

MOVE TO FOOTHILLS OF THE SOUTH DOWNS
From small acorns … those early days of two classes per week, delivered to a handful of students and ever-growing community, sparked a unique and interesting journey. Living up to its nomadic origins, The Yurt moved from Nina’s garden in Storrington, to the foothills of the South Downs, surrounded by beautiful equestrian countryside. It bravely stood up to the sometimes, harsh elements but basked in the appreciation of the local yoga community.

ARRIVAL AT KNEPP
Seeking an even more peaceful location where overnight stays would be possible, Nina moved the yurt to the wildflower meadow at the heart of Knepp’s re-wilding project. “I was entranced by this peaceful place, where the land was respected and wildlife roamed free. The owners shared a similar vision and ethos and I felt this would be the perfect place for students to go deeper with their practice and connect with the healing force of nature”.
