About the workshop

Following the quietness of winter, nature awakens into spring. Trees begin to bud, birds build their nests, and insects emerge and multiply. As part of nature, our bodies also respond to these seasonal shifts in energy. This workshop combines Qigong, Yin Yoga, and sound healing to harmonise with the rising energy of spring and the Wood phase - a time of growth, renewal, and forward movement in Chinese medicine. The Wood phase supports vision, creativity, flexibility, and our ability to adapt to change, while also encouraging us to stay rooted and supported as we grow. We will begin with gentle Qigong movements inspired by the spiralling growth of trees and plants, alongside the playful deer frolics. These movements help to open the chest and sides of the body, release stagnation along the Liver and Gallbladder meridians, and support the smooth flow of Qi. The deer frolics in particular enhance spinal mobility, hip opening, coordination, and balance, while cultivating lightness, joy, and ease in both body and mind. From here, we will move into a nourishing Yin Yoga sequence focused on the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. Yin Yoga supports the health of the tendons, ligaments, and fascia, encourages joint mobility, and helps release deep-seated tension. Practised slowly and mindfully, it also calms the nervous system, supports emotional balance, and creates space for reflection and renewal. The workshop will close with a deeply restorative sound bath, where the vibrations of crystal singing bowls, Tibetan bowls, and gentle percussion lull the nervous system into a meditative state of rest. The sounds support integration of the practices, soothe the mind, and allow you to awaken into spring feeling grounded, refreshed, and renewed. The practice is suitable for beginners and all abilities. A nourishing tea break will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a blanket and pillow for the sound bath.
