About the workshop

Neck pain is one of the major musculoskeletal disorders in the adult population. Approximately up to 20% of the adult population has neck pain at any given time, with a prevalence similar to low back pain. Research is proven that addressing posture, pain management and gentle exercise can be beneficial to improve neck pain. Yoga is ideally placed to help with postural and chronic pain issues. However, there needs to be more guidance on how to use yoga safely and effectively people suffering from neck or shoulder pain. This workshop, led by Silvia Laurenti, is suitable for anyone suffering from neck and shoulder pain or for yoga teachers wishing to learn more about using yoga therapeutically. Unfortunately, not all yoga is useful for neck pain; The wrong practice can significantly increase pain while appropriate practice may be curative. Silvia Laurenti, is a HPC-registered Physiotherapist, qualified at the University of Brighton in 2007. She has been working extensively in the NHS and private practice. Silvia is also a qualified Yoga and Pilates teacher with a passion for teaching experiential anatomy. For the past 10 years, she has been delivering embodiment and anatomy workshops to yoga and movement teachers. She is the clinical lead for Connect Health Pain Services in the South where she integrates physiotherapy, somatic practices and yoga therapy for the management of complex chronic pain conditions. Silvia also offers training in yoga therapy for pain to yoga professionals who want to understand best practices, precautions, and how to apply various aspects of yoga successfully. We are delighted that Silvia is returning The Yoga Garden to offer a series of four workshops this year that will benefit both beginners to yoga and yoga professional alike.
